Luxury Honeymoons

Islands and resorts suited to a honeymoon, chosen for privacy, the journey there and how the season lines up with your dates,…

How to plan a luxury honeymoon

Start with the calendar, not the resort. A honeymoon usually has fixed dates, set by the wedding, and those dates decide which islands are at their best. Once you know the month, the choice narrows quickly to two or three places, and only then does it make sense to compare villas.

Match the island to the wedding month

  • Winter and early spring weddings: the Maldives is driest from about January to April, the classic window for a lagoon honeymoon.
  • Summer weddings: Mauritius is cooler and drier from May, and French Polynesia and Fiji are in their dry season from roughly May to October.
  • Spring or autumn weddings: Seychelles is calmest in the transition months around April to May and October to November.

What to check before booking

  • Total journey time: after a wedding, a journey of more than a day to the Pacific is a real cost. From Europe, the Indian Ocean is far kinder.
  • Nights versus distance: seven nights is a sensible minimum for the Indian Ocean, ten or more for Bora Bora or Fiji.
  • Honeymoon offer rules: many resorts ask for a marriage certificate and travel within six to twelve months of the wedding, with a minimum stay.
  • One island or two: a single resort suits couples who want to stop; a split stay suits those who will get restless after five days.
  • Booking lead time: sought-after villas over Christmas, Easter and August go months ahead, so secure the room before flights.

Budget signals

For two people over seven nights, excluding international flights, the site's guides put Mauritius from around US$5,000 to US$10,000, Seychelles from around US$8,000 to US$13,000 and a comfortable Maldives week from around US$16,000 to US$20,000. Honeymoon perks such as a dinner or a spa credit are pleasant extras, but stay-pay and early-booking deals save far more. We'd book the right island first and treat the perks as a bonus.
