A Mauritius honeymoon works best as two halves: a few slow days on the east coast for sunrise swims and island boat trips, then the south-west for Le Morne, sunset sails and the island’s best scenery. If you only have a week, pick one coast and one excellent room. My shortlist for couples is The Oberoi for seclusion, Constance Prince Maurice for food and wine, Four Seasons Anahita for a private pool, and LUX* Le Morne or The St. Regis Le Morne for the mountain and the sunsets. The best months are October to December and April to May, when both coasts are warm and the wind is light.
Mauritius suits couples who want more than a sunbed. You can climb a mountain before breakfast, eat Creole and French cooking in the same evening, taste rum where the cane is grown and still be back for a massage by four. For a seven-night honeymoon for two at this level, excluding international flights, plan on around US$5,000–US$10,000; a ten-night trip with pool villas and a couple of private excursions will sit at or above the top of that range.

The most romantic things to do in Mauritius
Mauritius rewards couples who leave the resort two or three times. These are the experiences I’d build a honeymoon around, with typical costs so you can decide which ones earn a place.
| Experience | Where | How long | Typical cost for two |
|---|---|---|---|
| Private catamaran to Île aux Bénitiers | Black River, south-west | About 6 hours | From around US$1,200 for a private boat |
| Day on Île des Deux Cocos | Blue Bay, south-east | About 6.5 hours | From around US$240 (shared day) |
| Sunset catamaran | Grand Baie or Black River | 2–4 hours | From around US$750 for a private sail |
| Le Morne Brabant at dawn | Le Morne | About 4 hours with a guide | From around US$100–US$200 |
| Helicopter over the “underwater waterfall” | Bel Ombre or Chamarel helipads | 15–25 minutes | From around US$650 |
| Rum distillery tour and lunch | Rhumerie de Chamarel | Half a day | From around US$100 with lunch |
Prices are indicative and were last updated in October 2026. Rates change with season, exchange rates and availability, so check live prices before booking.
A private picnic on an islet. Île aux Bénitiers, off the south-west coast, is a low strip of sand and coconut palms inside the lagoon. Private catamaran days from Black River usually look for dolphins in Tamarin Bay first, stop to snorkel near Crystal Rock, a coral outcrop that sticks up from the shallows, then serve a barbecue lunch on board before you spend the afternoon on the island. On the other side of Mauritius, Île des Deux Cocos sits inside the Blue Bay Marine Park and has a Moorish-style villa from the 1920s, a beach restaurant and glass-bottom boat trips over the coral. The standard day is shared, so ask your concierge whether the island can be booked privately on your dates.
A sunset catamaran. The west and north face the sunset, which is why evening sails leave from Black River and Grand Baie. A private two-hour cocktail cruise from Grand Baie runs from around 5pm, while longer dinner sails head towards the cliffs of Coin de Mire with a barbecue on board. Book a private boat; shared sunset sails tend to come with music and a crowd.
Le Morne at dawn. The guided climb up Le Morne Brabant covers about 6–7km with around 500m of ascent, and the top section involves scrambling with your hands. Sunrise departures start at around 4.30am, so you reach the summit as the light spreads over the lagoon and the reef below. The summit also carries history: UNESCO lists the mountain for its role as a refuge for people who escaped slavery.

A helicopter flight over the underwater waterfall. Off the south-west tip, sand and silt running down the reef shelf create the illusion of a waterfall beneath the sea. You can only really see it from the air. Short flights of 15–25 minutes leave from helipads at Bel Ombre and Chamarel and also pass over Le Morne and the lagoon. Operators set weight and size limits, and flights move with the weather, so book it early in the trip.
A spa day and a rum tasting. Most resorts include a couples’ massage in their honeymoon offers, and several of the island’s spas, Four Seasons Anahita’s among them, have treatment rooms over the water. For an afternoon out, the Rhumerie de Chamarel distils agricultural rum from cane grown on the hillside around it, offers tastings of its white and aged rums and liqueurs, and runs L’Alchimiste, a French-Mauritian restaurant on site.
Honeymoon perks worth asking for
Almost every luxury resort in Mauritius runs a honeymoon offer, and some are worth a lot. Recent examples include a discount of around 30% at Royal Palm Beachcomber Luxury, 10% off the second person’s rate at LUX* Le Morne, a daily €100 resort credit plus sparkling wine at Constance Prince Maurice, and a couples’ massage, champagne and a romantic lunch at One&Only Le Saint Géran. Four Seasons Anahita has offered a 60-minute couples’ massage and a floral bath in the villa, and The Oberoi a candlelit dinner and a special turndown with wine.
The catch is paperwork. Most offers require a marriage or civil partnership certificate dated within the last 12 months, shown at booking and again at check-in, and many apply only from half board upwards or on a minimum stay of four or more nights. If you are travelling for an anniversary instead, the anniversary islands guide covers resorts that treat those trips just as well.
Which coast suits which couple
| Coast | Suits couples who want | Best months | Honeymoon resorts |
|---|---|---|---|
| East (Belle Mare, Poste de Flacq, Trou d’Eau Douce) | Long beaches, sunrise, boat days, a resort you never leave | October–May | Constance Prince Maurice, One&Only Le Saint Géran, Four Seasons Anahita, Shangri-La Le Touessrok |
| South-west (Le Morne) | Sunsets, the mountain, hiking and day trips to Chamarel | All year; best in the dry winter | LUX* Le Morne, The St. Regis Le Morne |
| North-west and north (Turtle Bay, Grand Baie) | Calm water, sunsets, restaurants beyond the hotel | All year; sheltered in winter | The Oberoi, Royal Palm Beachcomber Luxury |
Couples who picture a huge beach, a sunrise swim and a day on a sandbar should look east. Those who want golden evenings, a mountain on the skyline and more to explore belong in the south-west. The north-west suits couples who want sheltered water in the southern winter and a sunset every evening, without the drama of Le Morne. The east versus west coast comparison sets out the weather and transfer differences in full.
The best months for a Mauritius honeymoon
October, November and early December are the strongest honeymoon months: warm sea, low rainfall and lighter trade winds, so the east coast is at its best and the sunsets on the west are reliably clear. April and May are almost as good, with fewer visitors after Easter. June to September is the cool, dry winter, around 24°C by day; it is lovely on the west and north-west, but the east takes the south-east trades and boat days can be cancelled. January to March is hot, humid and the main cyclone risk period. Avoid the festive fortnight unless you are happy with doubled rates and compulsory gala dinners. The month-by-month guide to the best time to visit Mauritius has the detail.
A 10-night Mauritius honeymoon route
Ten nights lets you see both sides of the island without spending the honeymoon in a car. I’d split it four nights east and six south-west, because the south-west has more to do and the east is the easier landing after a long-haul flight.
- Nights 1–4, east coast: arrive, sleep and keep day two empty. On day three, take a boat across to Île aux Cerfs early, before the day crowds, or book a private sandbank lunch through the resort. Day four is for the spa and a long dinner.
- Day 5, transfer south-west: the drive takes about 75–90 minutes. Break it with lunch in Mahébourg or a few hours on Île des Deux Cocos if you leave early and your bags go ahead.
- Nights 5–10, Le Morne: climb Le Morne at dawn on your first clear morning, then do nothing else that day. Give another day to Chamarel, with the helicopter flight, the rum distillery and lunch at L’Alchimiste. Book the private catamaran to Île aux Bénitiers for mid-stay, and save a sunset sail for the last evening.
Keep one free day in each half as a weather buffer, because boats and helicopters cancel in strong wind. With seven nights, stay in one place and add a single day trip across the island. The one resort or split stay guide helps if you are undecided, and the seven-day Mauritius itinerary shows how a single base works.
The best honeymoon resorts in Mauritius
These eight are judged on what counts on a honeymoon: privacy, the room you would actually spend time in, romantic dining and how easy the resort makes the experiences above. For a wider view of the island’s top hotels, see the best luxury resorts in Mauritius.
The Oberoi, Mauritius: best for seclusion
The Oberoi is the resort for couples who want to disappear. Its thatched pavilions and villas are scattered through 20 acres of gardens on Turtle Bay, a protected marine park on the north-west coast, and the sense of space between buildings is the point. The honeymoon choice is a Luxury Villa with a private pool, walled garden and dining gazebo, with a four-poster bed and sunken marble bath inside. Dinner can be Creole cooking in the stone-walled Gunpowder Room, an old French ammunition store, or a table set up on the beach as the sun drops into the bay.
- Best for: couples who want quiet, space and sunsets
- Location: Turtle Bay, north-west; around 60 minutes from the airport
- Rates: a Luxury Pavilion runs from around US$550 a night between June and September and about US$750 in the October to May high season (nearer US$1,150 over Christmas); pool villas start at around US$1,300, with breakfast and taxes included
- Don’t miss: a private dinner in your villa’s gazebo
Good to know: the beach is a series of small coves, not one long strand, so book this for the villa and the calm.

Constance Prince Maurice: best for food and wine
Prince Maurice is the honeymoon pick if dinner is the highlight of your day. The Relais & Châteaux resort has around 89 suites and villas between a beach and a sheltered mangrove inlet at Poste de Flacq, and some junior suites stand on stilts above a fish reserve. Le Barachois, its floating restaurant, is reached along pontoons over the water, and a sommelier can lead you through a cellar of around 25,000 bottles. The honeymoon package has included sparkling wine and a daily €100 resort credit, which covers a good part of a spa visit or a cellar tasting.
- Best for: couples who travel to eat and drink well
- Location: Poste de Flacq, north-east; around 55–60 minutes from the airport
- Rates: a garden-view junior suite costs from around US$700 a night in the mid-May to September low season and about US$1,250 from October to December, with breakfast and VAT included; villas are priced on request
- Don’t miss: a candlelit table at Le Barachois

Four Seasons Resort Mauritius at Anahita: best for a private pool
If a private pool is non-negotiable, Anahita guarantees one: every villa at Beau Champ has its own pool, walled garden and outdoor shower, so you can spend whole afternoons without seeing another guest. The spa has treatment pavilions over the water, several designed for two, and the honeymoon offer has included a couples’ massage and a floral bath run in the villa. A speedboat from the resort jetty takes you to a guest-only cove on Île aux Cerfs with a beach grill. It is also the shortest transfer on the island, which helps after a night flight.
- Best for: couples who want villa privacy above all
- Location: Beau Champ, east; around 40 minutes from the airport
- Rates: garden pool villas start at around US$950 a night from May to September and about US$1,350 in high season; some sites quote before the 15% VAT, so compare like with like
- Don’t miss: a side-by-side treatment in an overwater spa pavilion
Good to know: the grounds are spread out and you will use buggies, so ask for an ocean-view villa near the restaurants.
One&Only Le Saint Géran: best for a grand, full-service honeymoon
Le Saint Géran suits couples who want choice every evening. The resort covers its own peninsula with over 2km of beach, every room and suite has a terrace or balcony facing the ocean, lagoon or sand, and the suites come with butler service. Romance here means dinner at Tapasake above the lagoon, a treatment at the Guerlain Spa and private dining set up almost anywhere on the grounds. Its honeymoon offer has included champagne on arrival, an hour-long couples’ treatment and a bath ceremony.
- Best for: couples who want lots of restaurants and polish
- Location: Poste de Flacq, east; around 50–60 minutes from the airport
- Rates: lagoon and ocean rooms with breakfast are from around US$900 a night in the June to September low season, rising to about US$1,250 in high season, before 15% VAT
- Don’t miss: a private beach dinner arranged by your butler
Good to know: it is popular with families in school holidays; travel in term time for a quieter resort.

Shangri-La Le Touessrok: best for island days
Le Touessrok is the east-coast resort that comes closest to a private-island honeymoon. A free boat runs guests to Îlot Mangénie, a resort-only islet about 10 minutes away with five beach cabanas, butlers on call and a seafood restaurant, and Île aux Cerfs is just across the lagoon. Couples should book a room on Frangipani Island, the resort’s quietest wing, linked by a footbridge; rooms with Frangipani benefits have included champagne on arrival and evening cocktails.
- Best for: couples who want beach and boat days
- Location: Trou d’Eau Douce, east; around 45–50 minutes from the airport
- Rates: expect around US$600 a night for an ocean-view room from June to September and about US$1,000 in high season, VAT included; Frangipani suites cost more
- Don’t miss: a cabana on Îlot Mangénie for a full day
LUX* Le Morne: best for sunsets beneath the mountain
LUX* Le Morne sits between Le Morne Brabant and the lagoon, and it is pitched firmly at couples, with a small, boutique feel compared with the big east-coast resorts. Its sunset-facing junior suites look straight over the water, and the honeymoon offer has included 10% off the second guest, a poolside breakfast, champagne and canapés on your terrace, a romantic dinner and spa credit on stays of four nights or more. It is the most practical base for the dawn hike, the helicopter flight and the Île aux Bénitiers catamaran, all within a short drive.
- Best for: couples who want scenery and activities on the doorstep
- Location: Le Morne, south-west; around 60–75 minutes from the airport
- Rates: a sea-facing Deluxe room with breakfast is from around US$380 a night in the June to August low season and around US$700 in high season; sunset junior suites cost more
- Don’t miss: a sunset-facing junior suite
Good to know: the resort closes for renovation from 1 May to 31 October 2027 and reopens in November with new restaurants, so plan around those dates.
The St. Regis Le Morne Resort: best for butler-led romance
The St. Regis gives you the same mountain and sunset as LUX* Le Morne, with more formal service. A butler is assigned to every room and suite, which makes it simple to arrange a dawn pick-up for the hike, a private dinner on the beach or a table at one of the six restaurants. The Iridium Spa is one of the largest on the island, with twelve treatment rooms, and the resort sits on one of the longest stretches of sand on the peninsula.
- Best for: couples who like to have everything arranged for them
- Location: Le Morne, south-west; around 60–75 minutes from the airport
- Rates: junior suites go from around US$650 a night in the quieter June to September months to about US$1,000 from October, breakfast and VAT included
- Don’t miss: a couples’ ritual at the Iridium Spa after the hike
Royal Palm Beachcomber Luxury: best for discreet service
Royal Palm is a small, old-school hotel of 69 sea-facing suites in Grand Baie, and the staff-to-guest ratio shows in how quickly they learn your names and habits. For a honeymoon, it offers sheltered north-coast water in winter, sunsets over the bay and the restaurants and catamaran jetties of Grand Baie a few minutes away, which makes the sunset sail easy to arrange. Its honeymoon rate has been one of the most generous on the island, at around 30% off, with champagne and a free experience included.
- Best for: couples who value personal service over villa space
- Location: Grand Baie, north; around 70–80 minutes from the airport
- Rates: beachfront junior suites with breakfast run from around US$750 a night from mid-May to September and about US$1,350 in high season (about US$1,450 at Christmas), with VAT included
- Don’t miss: a private sunset cruise from Grand Baie
Good to know: only the Royal Villa has its own pool; the suites rely on the shared pools and the beach.
Mauritius or somewhere else for your honeymoon?
Mauritius is cheaper than the Maldives for a comparable level of hotel and gives you far more to do, but it has no overwater villas and the lagoon is not as clear as an atoll’s. The Mauritius versus Maldives comparison weighs the two, and the Seychelles versus Mauritius guide is the one to read if granite beaches and island-hopping appeal. For a first big trip together, the honeymoon islands for first-time visitors puts Mauritius alongside the other contenders.

My verdict
For a honeymoon that is mostly about being alone together, I’d book The Oberoi or Four Seasons Anahita and leave the resort only for one or two boat trips. If you want the full Mauritius experience, split ten nights between Constance Prince Maurice or Le Touessrok in the east and LUX* Le Morne (closed from May to October 2027) or The St. Regis in the south-west, then build the week around a dawn hike, a private catamaran and a helicopter flight. Travel between October and early December or in April and May, carry your marriage certificate, and ask every shortlisted resort for its honeymoon rate before you book.
