The best family resorts in the Maldives take care of the things that make or break a holiday with children: a kids’ club that accepts your youngest, a villa where everyone sleeps behind a door, a beach where small swimmers can stand up, and a transfer that does not end in tears. My overall pick is Soneva Jani for the scale of its children’s club, with Niyama Private Islands best for babies and toddlers and One&Only Reethi Rah best for teenagers. Below, eight resorts are compared on exactly those points.

Prices are indicative and were last updated in October 2026. Rates change with season, exchange rates and availability, so check live prices before booking.
Rates are for an entry villa per night before the 10% service charge, 17% GST and US$12 per person nightly Green Tax (children under two are generally exempt from Green Tax). Family villas cost considerably more, and extra beds, child meals and transfers for children are often charged separately.
What to check before booking with children
Kids’ clubs and age limits
Most Maldives clubs take children on their own from age four. Below that, a parent, guardian or paid babysitter must stay with them, which means the club is a playroom, not a break. If your youngest is under four, the resorts to look at are Niyama (from 12 months) and Vakkaru (from three). Ask for the club’s opening hours too: a 9am to 6pm day is common, and evening sessions are not.
Family villas and connecting rooms
Many standard villas take two adults and one child, so a family of four needs a two-bedroom villa or two connecting ones. Look at the floor plan. Does the second bedroom have its own bathroom? Can you reach it without walking through the parents’ room? Is the “second bedroom” really a day bed in the living room? One&Only Reethi Rah’s Two-Villa Residence, for example, is two separate villas joined by a shared beach, which gives teenagers a door of their own.
Shallow lagoons or deep drop-offs
Children who are still learning to swim need a gently sloping beach with calm, waist-deep water. Older children who snorkel well get more from a house reef close to shore, where the coral drops away and currents can pick up. The same island often has both: ask which side has the calmest lagoon for little ones and book a beach villa there. Overwater villas need extra care with toddlers, because decks and steps open straight onto the sea.
How child-friendly is the transfer?
Seaplanes fly in daylight only, so a long-haul flight landing in the afternoon can mean a hotel night in Malé before the last leg. Their luggage allowance (20kg in the hold plus 5kg hand luggage on Trans Maldivian Airways) is tight once you add a buggy and a travel cot, and the cabins are noisy. Boat transfers to Patina, Waldorf Astoria and One&Only Reethi Rah run later in the day and take more luggage, though a speedboat can be bumpy in a choppy sea. The speedboat vs seaplane guide has the details.
Babysitting and children’s menus
Babysitting is usually charged by the hour (Soneva Jani lists US$35 an hour during the day), so check minimum bookings and whether a sitter can stay in the villa in the evening. Vakkaru includes three hours free per stay for children aged three to 12. For meals, ask whether children eat free, whether that covers every restaurant or only a children’s menu, and whether the resort can prepare purées or plain food on request.
Teenagers
Many resorts count children over 12 as adults for pricing, and few run a real teen programme. Teenagers usually want independence, sport and other teenagers. One&Only Reethi Rah, Waldorf Astoria, Soneva Jani and Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru have dedicated teen spaces; elsewhere, check diving, surfing and watersports minimum ages and prices.
The 8 best family resorts in the Maldives
1. Soneva Jani: best overall for children of all ages
Soneva Jani’s children’s club, The Den, is a two-storey, technology-free building and one of the largest kids’ clubs in Asia, with separate toddler and teenage areas so older children are not lumped in with five-year-olds. Access and the daily programme are included for children from four; younger children can join with a parent or babysitter (from US$35 an hour). The water villas are huge, and the two-bedroom Water Reserve with Slide covers 772 square metres, but they are all over the lagoon, so families with toddlers may prefer one of the island residences on land. The wide, mostly shallow lagoon is good for paddleboarding and supervised swimming.
- Best for: families with mixed ages and a large budget
- Transfer: about 40 minutes by seaplane to Noonu Atoll
- Rates: around US$2,600 a night (May to October) and US$3,500 (November to April), plus taxes and service; two-bedroom villas cost much more
- Don’t miss: a family film at the outdoor cinema
Good to know: the slides from the villa decks drop into open water, so set family rules on day one about who can use them alone.

2. Niyama Private Islands: best for babies and toddlers
Niyama’s Explorers club, run with Scott Dunn, takes children from 12 months and splits them into four groups: Globetrotters (one to two), Adventurers (three to four), Voyagers (five to seven) and Pioneers (eight to 11). It opens daily from 9am to 6pm, with a nap area for the youngest, a splash park, trampoline and an outdoor kitchen for baking. The resort spans two islands, and the family-friendly “Play” island has the club, the treetop Nest restaurant and an infinity pool with children’s areas. The Two-Bedroom Family Beach Pavilion faces the lagoon and has its own in-villa spa room for parents.
- Best for: parents who need real childcare for under-fours
- Transfer: about 40–45 minutes by seaplane to Dhaalu Atoll
- Rates: beach villas around US$900 a night (May to October) and US$1,350 (November to April), breakfast included, plus taxes and service
- Don’t miss: the house surf break, Vodi, for older children from March to October
Good to know: charges for the youngest age group can differ from the older ones, so confirm the price for each child before you travel.

3. Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru: best for young marine biologists
Landaa Giraavaru sits in the Baa Atoll UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and has a Marine Discovery Centre where resident biologists run coral, turtle and manta projects that children can join. Kuda Velaa, the kids’ club, takes ages four to 12, with younger children welcome alongside an adult, and there is a separate club for teenagers. Families can choose the Family Beach Villa with Pool or the Two Bedroom Family Beach Bungalow, both sleeping two adults and three children. The resort also supplies baby baths, bottle warmers, baby monitors and pop-up beach tents on request, which saves a lot of luggage.
- Best for: curious children who want to learn about the reef
- Transfer: about 35 minutes by seaplane
- Rates: around US$1,800 a night (May to October) and US$2,550 (November to April), usually room only, plus taxes and service
- Don’t miss: a session with the marine biologists at the Discovery Centre

4. One&Only Reethi Rah: best for teenagers and active families
Reethi Rah is one of the largest resort islands in the Maldives, with room to cycle between beaches, a FIFA-standard football pitch, tennis and padel courts and a PADI dive centre. KidsOnly takes ages four to 12, and One Tribe gives 13- to 17-year-olds their own programme and space; both are included, with a charge for some activities. The Two-Villa Residence is the stand-out family layout: parents in one villa, children in the other, linked by a stretch of beach. The 45-minute boat transfer is easy with luggage and runs after dark.
- Best for: families with teenagers or very active children
- Transfer: about 45 minutes by resort boat
- Rates: around US$1,950 a night (mid-July to mid-December) and US$2,700 (mid-January to mid-April), breakfast included, plus taxes and service
- Don’t miss: a family PADI Discover Scuba session for children aged ten and over

5. JOALI Maldives: best for creative children
JOALI’s Muramas club is built around treasure hunts, cooking workshops and hands-on art, with no screens, and it is included for ages four to 12. Younger children can attend with a guardian or a paid babysitter. Standard villas only take two adults and one child, so families of four should look at the Two Bedroom Family Beach Villa with Two Pools, which covers 940 square metres and has one pool facing the ocean and another in the garden. The art trail around the island gives parents and children something to do together on the way to lunch.
- Best for: design-minded parents with primary-age children
- Transfer: about 45 minutes by seaplane to Raa Atoll
- Rates: around US$1,650 a night (May to October) and US$2,500 (November to April), breakfast included, plus taxes and service; family villas cost more
- Don’t miss: a children’s cooking class at Muramas
Good to know: JOALI counts children over 12 as adults for pricing, which affects families with teenagers.

6. Patina Maldives, Fari Islands: best for a boat transfer and a short trip
Patina is 45 minutes from the airport by speedboat, so a family arriving on an afternoon flight can be in the pool by sunset with no Malé hotel night. Its Footprints club, for ages four to 11, mixes art, science, sport and sustainability projects; babysitting is available in the club or in the villa for a fee. All villas have private pools, and the two- and three-bedroom villas, on the beach or over water, can be set up for families. Seasonal family offers have included free stays, meals and transfers for two children under 12.
- Best for: families on a five-night trip or with a late arrival
- Transfer: about 45 minutes by speedboat
- Rates: around US$1,450 a night (May to October) and US$2,500 (November to April), breakfast included, plus taxes and service
- Don’t miss: a daily scoop from the Tuk Tuk Gelato cart

7. Vakkaru Maldives: best for three-year-olds and a quieter island
Vakkaru’s Parrotfish Club takes children from three to 12 with certified staff, which closes the gap that most clubs leave between toddlers and four-year-olds. It has indoor craft and play rooms, plus an outdoor area with a children’s pool and mini sun loungers. Families get three hours of complimentary babysitting per stay for children aged three to 12, and breakfast at Amaany includes a mini kids’ buffet. Family layouts include the Beach Family Pool Villa, Two Bedroom Beach Villa and a Four Bedroom Residence.
- Best for: families with a three-year-old who wants to join in
- Transfer: about 30 minutes by seaplane to Baa Atoll
- Rates: around US$900 a night (May to October) and US$1,400 (November to April), breakfast included, plus taxes and service
- Don’t miss: a manta snorkel trip to Hanifaru Bay for confident older swimmers, May to November
8. Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi: best for big families and water play
Waldorf Astoria’s Stars Club, for ages four to 11, comes with a water play park, family pool, playroom and games room, and Club Nova gives teenagers a space of their own. One-, two- and three-bedroom villas all have private infinity pools, so grandparents and two generations of children can share a single villa. With 11 dining venues, fussy eaters and adventurous ones will both find something, and the yacht transfer avoids seaplane luggage limits.
- Best for: multigenerational groups
- Transfer: about 40–45 minutes by yacht
- Rates: around US$2,450 a night (May to October) and US$2,750 (November to April), breakfast included, plus taxes and service
- Don’t miss: an afternoon at the Stars Club water park
Good to know: younger children can use the club with an adult, and babysitting is available for a fee.

Which resort for which age?
Under three: Niyama is the only resort here whose club takes one- and two-year-olds without a parent. Four Seasons Landaa is strong on baby equipment if you will be with your child anyway. Choose a beach villa over a water villa at this age.
Three to 11: every resort here works. Pick by personality: Landaa for ocean-mad children, JOALI for makers, Waldorf Astoria for splash-park fans and Vakkaru if you have a three-year-old. Ask for the current weekly club schedule for your dates.
Teenagers: One&Only Reethi Rah has the most complete set-up, with One Tribe, sport and space to roam. Soneva Jani and Waldorf Astoria also have teen spaces. For a surfing or diving teenager, Niyama’s Vodi break and Landaa’s marine programmes are good alternatives.
For trip length, six or seven nights usually justifies the journey with children; the guide to how many days you need in the Maldives helps decide. Budget for a full week with the Maldives cost guide, and check monsoon timing in the best time to visit the Maldives, since school summer holidays fall in the wetter season.

| Niyama Private Islands | Babies and toddlers | Two-Bedroom Family Beach Pavilion | Check rates |
| Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru | Marine learning | Family Beach Villa with Pool | Check rates |
| One&Only Reethi Rah | Teenagers and sport | Two-Villa Residence | Check rates |
| JOALI Maldives | Creative children | Two Bedroom Family Beach Villa with Two Pools | Check rates |
| Patina Maldives | Speedboat access | Two-bedroom beach pool villa | Check rates |
| Vakkaru Maldives | Three-year-olds | Beach Family Pool Villa | Check rates |
| Waldorf Astoria Ithaafushi | Multigenerational groups | Three-bedroom villa | Check rates |
My verdict: Soneva Jani is the best all-round family resort if cost is not the deciding factor. With a baby or toddler, book Niyama; with teenagers, One&Only Reethi Rah. For a shorter trip without a seaplane, Patina is the easiest choice. If you are still comparing beach resorts more widely, the best luxury resorts in the Maldives and the best overwater villas in the Maldives cover the rest of the field.
